Event and course

The Summit 200 is a single-loop, 200-mile mountain ultramarathon in Summit County, Colorado, based in Frisco. The route uses hiking trails, recreation paths, forest roads, and short paved sections, with the majority on single-track trail and infrequently used forest roads. The lowest points on the course are above 9,000 feet and sections exceed 12,700 feet. Over the event runners face approximately 40,000 ft of cumulative elevation gain and loss. The race takes place on National Forest and Summit County lands.

Logistics, rules and support

The event is capped at 75 runners with the possibility of increasing to 100. Entry requires a previous finish at a 100-mile race. Organizers provide LIVE GPS tracking devices (Garmin Messenger) and require participants to carry a GPX of the course on a phone and demonstrate its use at check in. There are about 10 full aid stations, 4 sleep stations, and drop bags, but there will be long stretches without aid and limited crew access; the first crew-accessible area is likely at least 65 miles in. Mandatory carried gear includes a water filter, a rainproof jacket or poncho, head covering, insulating jacket, gloves, leg coverage, an emergency/space blanket or poncho, a whistle, a wag bag, and a minimum of 1.5 liters of water-carrying capacity. Vehicles at crew-accessible areas must fit in a standard parking space (9 x 18 ft); only one crew vehicle is allowed per runner. The race has an overall 110-hour cutoff. The organizer’s deferral and cancellation policies apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
