Event overview
The Summit 200 is a 200-mile non-repetitive loop around Summit County, Colorado, based in the Frisco area. The event is scheduled for July 27, 2026. The course uses hiking trails, recreation paths, forest roads and short sections of pavement, with the majority on single-track trail and infrequently traveled forest roads.
Course, rules and logistics
The route stays at high altitude, with the lowest point above 9,000 feet and sections surpassing 12,700 feet. Runners face approximately 40,000 feet of total elevation gain and loss. The race includes 12 full aid stations, 4 sleep stations and drop bags; long stretches without aid can reach up to 29 miles (about a 16.7-mile average between aid). Crew access is limited, with the first crew-accessible area likely at least 65–70 miles into the race. All participants receive live GPS tracking (a Garmin inReach is provided) and must carry a GPX of the course on a phone.
Entrants must have a prior finish of at least 100 miles to register. The overall cutoff is 110 hours. Mandatory carried gear includes a water filter, rainproof jacket or poncho, warm head and body layers, gloves, leg covering, emergency/space blanket or poncho, a wag bag, a whistle and a minimum of 1.5 liters of water capacity. The event has a deferral policy with tiered credit (100% credit 90 days prior, credit remaining for three years) and no refunds. The race takes place on National Forest and Summit County lands, subject to required permits. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
