Ideal Beach Triathlon : Elkhart, IN, June 26, 2027
The event features multiple triathlon options at Heaton Lake with a sandy beach swim entry and shared finish line for adults and children. The sprint courses use a marked swim with two right turns at large orange buoys and a short run across sand to the transition area. The bike loop runs along the Indiana-Michigan state line and is described as flat and fast. The sprint run follows the lakeshore, crosses a toll-road overpass, and passes through an industrial park to a turnaround before returning.
Distances:
- Sprint Triathlon (Individual and Relay): Swim 400 yards, Bike 12 miles, Run 3.1 miles
- Kids Competitive (ages 6 to 14): Swim 25 yards, Bike 0.75 mile, Run 0.5 mile
- Kids Non-Competitive (ages 6 to 12): Swim 25 yards, Bike 0.75 mile, Run 0.5 mile
Kids competitive entrants must swim 25 yards unassisted and ride a bike without training wheels. Competitive kids use timing chips and are body marked; non-competitive kids may use personal flotation devices and receive a swim cap. Lifeguards, course monitors, and volunteers will support the kids courses. Team relay entries divide the sprint legs among teammates so each member completes one discipline.
