Ideal Beach Triathlon

The Ideal Beach Triathlon takes place on June 26, 2027 in Elkhart, IN. The event offers a sprint individual race, a sprint team relay, and two kids divisions with specified age and ability requirements.

The Sprint events use a beach swim with a sandy bottom. The swim leg is 400 yards and includes two right turns marked by large orange buoys. After the swim athletes run across the beach to transition. The bike leg follows a flat 12-mile loop along the Indiana-Michigan state line. The run is 3.1 miles along Heaton Lake and includes a toll-road overpass and a turnaround through an industrial park.

The Sprint Team Relay follows the same swim, bike, and run distances, with each team member completing one leg of the race.

Kids races are organized by age and format. The Kids Competitive division accepts athletes aged 6 to 14 who can swim 25 yards unassisted and ride without training wheels; it is a timed event with mandatory pre-race briefing, lifeguards in the water, body marking, and timing chips. Age groups for awards are 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-14. The Kids Non-Competitive division accepts ages 6 to 12, is not timed, allows parents to accompany participants, permits personal flotation devices, and finishes on the same finish line as the adult races.
