Ideal Beach Triathlon

The Ideal Beach Triathlon takes place in Elkhart, IN on June 26, 2027, with swim, bike, and run events for individuals, teams, and children at Heaton Lake.

Sprint Individual and Sprint Team Relay both use the same course layout. The swim is 400 yards with two right turns at large orange buoys and a short run across a sandy beach with a sandy bottom to the transition area. The bike is a flat, fast 12 mile loop that follows the Indiana-Michigan state line. The run is 3.1 miles along Heaton Lake, including a toll-road overpass and a passage through an industrial park with a turnaround before returning to the finish.

Kids events are split into competitive and non-competitive categories. Both require athletes to be able to swim 25 yards unassisted and to use a bike without training wheels. Helmets are mandatory. Lifeguards, monitors, and volunteers support the course; monitors accompany children on the bike segment. The competitive kids race is timed, uses timing chips, and awards top finishers by age groups 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-14. The non-competitive kids race emphasizes finishing safely and allows parents to run or bike alongside participants.
