The event offers three running distances that start and finish at the same location in Point of Rocks, Maryland, along the C&O Canal Towpath. The out-and-back courses follow the Potomac River on a wide, semi-paved gravel trail that is flat and shaded. The courses are USATF sanctioned and certified (MD25003NP for the 5K; MD24002NP for the half-marathon; MD25002NP for the marathon) and can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
Distances:

- Half marathon (13.1 miles)
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
Aid and support are provided on course. The half-marathon has two aid stations that runners pass twice; the marathon shares those stations and adds three additional marathon-only stations, all supplying water, Gatorade and bananas. Porta potties are placed at the start and finish. Medical first aid will be at the finish and at aid stations, with mobile medical teams along the course.
Entry and race rules include minimum age limits (5K 8 years, half-marathon 13 years, marathon 16 years) and restrictions: no headphones, no strollers, and no animals except service animals. There is no bag drop; parking is available near the start. All finishers receive a commemorative medal and a race T-shirt; T-shirt availability for new registrations ends on 2026-09-04. The marathon has a 5 hour 30 minute time limit; the half-marathon and 5K do not have time limits. Race timing is provided and results will be posted online.
