Event Overview
The Hotter N' Hell Trail Run is the fourth event in the Southeastern Trail Series, held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. Participants run through a course that includes a climb to the top of Double Oak Mountain and a descent into Peavine Gorge. The terrain features various elevation changes and includes a segment near Peavine Falls.
The event takes place during the summer, meaning participants will encounter high temperatures during the race. Aid stations are positioned along the course, including an additional station near the falls, to provide water and electrolyte drinks. The race is limited to a field of 300 participants.
Course Information
The event offers two trail distances:
- 9 Miler
- 18 Miler
The course starts at the Cedar Pavilion, located at the south end of Double Oak Lake. Runners utilize the trail network within the state park, navigating mountain climbs and natural technical sections like the gorge.
Logistics
Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the race at a local outfitter in Pelham and on the morning of the event at the Cedar Pavilion. Participants are required to enter Oak Mountain State Park through the South Gate near I-65, as other entrances may not be open in time for the start. There is a per-person entry fee for the state park. High school students and younger participants may access a registration discount. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
