Hot Pursuit 5k & 1 Mile Catch-A-Cop @ The Airport
The fourth annual Hot Pursuit event takes place at the Pickens County Airport in Liberty, South Carolina. This chip-timed race features a unique course layout that utilizes the airport taxiways and runways for both the start and the finish. The event is organized by the Youth Leadership Academy, a charter middle school, as part of a community service project. Proceeds from the race are designated for the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible swing to be installed at the Doodle Park.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- Hot Pursuit 5K Run/Walk
- Free Catch-A-Cop (1 Mile)
- Law Enforcement Officer 5K
The 1 Mile Catch-A-Cop is restricted to children in the 5th grade or younger. In this event, young participants run down the runway attempting to collect flags from law enforcement officers. Following the run, participating children receive a ride back to the starting area in a police car parade. Specific registration tracks are available for Law Enforcement Officers who wish to participate in the day's activities.
Registered participants for the 5K receive race entry with timing, a race t-shirt, and a finishing medal. T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register before the end of April. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the under 40 and 40+ (Masters) categories. Additionally, first-place awards are distributed in 10-year age intervals. Packet pickup is available both the evening before the event and on the morning of the race at the airport location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
