Event Overview
The fourth annual Hot Pursuit event features a 5K run/walk and a 1 mile kids' event called Catch-A-Cop. The event starts and finishes at the Pickens County Airport in Liberty, South Carolina. The course uses the airport's taxiways and runway.
Events and Features
- Hot Pursuit 5K Run/Walk: A chip-timed race. The registration fee includes timing, a race t-shirt, and a finishing medal.
- Catch-A-Cop (1 mile): A free event for children in 5th grade or younger (approximately 10 years old and under). Participants chase law enforcement officers down the runway to collect flags. After the race, children ride back to the start area in police cars as part of a parade.
- Law Enforcement Officer Participation: A separate registration is available for law enforcement officers.
Awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall for male and female participants under 40 years old, and for those 40 years and older (Masters). First-place awards are also given in 10-year age intervals.
Beneficiary and Organizer
All proceeds from the event go towards purchasing a wheelchair-accessible swing to be placed at Doodle Park in Liberty, SC. The event is organized as a service project by the Youth Leadership Academy, a charter middle school in Pickens, SC.
Practical Information
Packet pickup is available on Friday, April 17, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at The Scoop at the Airport (155 Technology Place, Liberty, SC). Morning pickup is also available on race day from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at the Pickens County Airport race location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
