Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon
The Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon takes place on April 11, 2026 in Lexington, Kentucky. The event is staged from the Kentucky Horse Park Campground area and uses a short section of the paved Legacy Trail with most of the course on local country roads.
Distances
- 26.2 miles (Marathon)
- 13.1 miles (Half marathon)
The course passes by more than 50 Central Kentucky horse farms. About 98% of the route is on scenic Central Kentucky country roads. The marathon route includes multiple out-and-back sections and has approximately 1,260 feet of elevation change. The half marathon route includes an out-and-back and has approximately 570 feet of elevation change.
Hydration and support are provided on course: the marathon has 17 hydration stations and the half marathon has 8. Stations serve water and an electrolyte drink; most stations include at least one portable restroom. Two later marathon stations will offer bananas and salty snacks. Race pacers are provided.
All participants receive an 11th annual performance/technical shirt and a finisher medal. Packet pickup is available at J&H Outdoors on April 9 and April 10, with an additional race day pickup for out-of-town runners at the campground area. A virtual runner/walker option is offered.
The event benefits Blue Grass Farms Charities; participant donations and partial proceeds will support that local nonprofit. Participants of legal drinking age are eligible for a complimentary beer provided by West Sixth Brewing after the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
