Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon
The Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon takes place in Lexington, Kentucky, starting from the Kentucky Horse Park Campground. The event features a route through Central Kentucky country roads, with the majority of the course passing by more than 50 local horse farms. Participants follow a rolling course that utilizes the Legacy Trail for the beginning and end of the race before moving onto scenic rural roads.
The event offers several participation options:
- Marathon: A 26.2 mile race with approximately 1,300 feet of elevation gain and 19 hydration stations.
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile race with approximately 600 feet of elevation gain and 8 hydration stations.
- Virtual Runner/Walker: A remote option for both 13.1 mile and 26.2 mile distances.
The marathon has a strictly enforced pace limit of 14 minutes and 30 seconds per mile, resulting in a 6-hour time limit for the full distance. The half marathon is open to both runners and walkers. Hydration stations along the course provide water and electrolyte drinks.
All participants receive a long-sleeved performance tech shirt and a custom finisher's medal. Other amenities include race pacers, free race photos, and post-race stretching. The event venue is located near the intersection of I-75 and I-64, with multiple hotels situated within three miles of the start and finish area.
