Hokie Half Marathon and 5K : Blacksburg, VA
The event takes place in Blacksburg, Virginia over September 19-20, 2026, and offers multiple in-person and virtual race options. Race fields are limited: the half marathon is capped at 2000 participants and the 5K at 500 runners and walkers. The half marathon course is USATF certified and uses the same route as recent years. A four-hour course time limit applies to the half marathon; support and awards are not guaranteed for runners who finish after the cut-off.
Finish line features for in-person options include live music, post-race food and drinks, and an awards area. Half marathon finishers in medal-eligible categories receive a Hokie Bird finisher medal; a no-medal half option is available. The 5K offers separate registration options with or without a finisher medal; only those registered in the medal option receive a medal.
Packet pickup and a small expo occur at University Mall in Blacksburg during the Saturday before race day; the expo includes merchandise such as shoes, nutrition, and apparel. Buses transport participants and spectators between designated parking areas and the start/finish area on race day. Timing bibs include a disposable timing chip and may display the participant name as provided on the registration form.
Awards include cash prizes for overall male and female top three finishers and age-group awards for both the half marathon and 5K. Age-group awards must be collected at the awards table and will not be mailed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
