Hitchin Town Centre 5km
Now in its 10th year, the Hitchin Town Centre 5km is a road race through Hitchin town centre in Hertfordshire. The event is a 5 km race run as two 2.5 km laps. The fully marked and marshalled course starts on the High Street, crosses the river, passes Windmill Hill, loops around Payne's Park and returns toward the start, taking in the market square, the riverside path and the steel statues by Cooper's Yard.
Entry fees vary and online entries close the week of the race. Chip timing is used throughout and an event t-shirt is available for an additional cost. UK Athletics rules apply. No dogs, buggies or cycles are allowed on the course, and headphones are not permitted on the closed-road sections.
Every finisher receives a medal. Trophies are awarded to first, second and third overall in male and female categories, with additional age-category prizes in 10-year bands. The race is based on Hitchin High Street, SG5 1AY. Town centre car parks at Queen Street, Portmill Lane and Hollow Lane are a short walk away; parking is usually limited and parking along the race route is not permitted.
