Event details
Hitchin 5 is scheduled for 27 September 2026. Entry fees are listed as £13 (early bird) and £14 standard. The event is a timed race and entrants receive an entry number, a timing chip and a finisher medal. Race registration number pick-up is in the Market Square. There are car parks on Queen Street (opposite the church), Portmill Lane, by the Queen Mother Theatre, Hollow Lane and other nearby roads. All car parks on Sundays are free. Local market toilets and a nearby coffee shop provide toilet facilities.
Course and rules
The course is two laps of 2.5 km each, for a total of 5 km. The route is mostly on paths with some road crossings to join sections; no major roads are used. Recognised hazards include concrete posts, other posts, bins, bus shelters, cobbled road sections, some tight turns, pedestrians and road vehicles. Marshals will be in place at road crossings and along the route.
The minimum entry age is 11 on race day. No music players are permitted. Scorers will record lap completions and a video system will be used for discrepancy checks. In wet conditions runners should take care on corners and follow marshal instructions. In extreme weather the race may be postponed. Entries cannot be transferred and are non-refundable. Cash prizes are offered for 1st to 3rd place in male and female categories; prize amounts will be confirmed later. All finishers receive a medal and post-race nibbles.
