The Hitchin 5 takes place on 27 September 2026. Entry cost is listed as £13 (early bird) to £14. The event is a timed 5 km road-and-path race with an entry number, timing chip and a medal awarded at the finish.

Course and rules

The course is two laps of 2.5 km each (total 5 km). The route is mostly on paths with some road crossings and no major roads used. Noted hazards include concrete posts, other posts, bins, bus shelters, cobbled road sections, some tight turns, pedestrians and road vehicles. The race is not traffic free; marshals will be positioned at road crossings and scorers and video will be used for finish verification. Minimum age for entry is 11 years on race day. Personal music players are not permitted. In wet or extreme weather participants are advised to follow marshal instructions; the race may be postponed if conditions require. Entries are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Logistics and prizes

Race numbers can be collected in Market Square and organisers will contact entrants by email with pick-up details; morning registration is listed at Market Square. Local car parks include Queen Street (opposite the church), Portmill Lane, by the Queen Mother Theatre and Hollow Lane; Sunday car parks are free. Toilets are available at the market and a nearby coffee shop. Cash prizes are planned for first, second and third place in male and female categories, with amounts to be confirmed.
