Hitchin 5
Hitchin 5 is a timed 5 km town race held on 27 September 2026. Entry fees are listed as £13 for early bird and £14 standard. Each runner receives an entry number, a timing chip and a finisher medal.
The course is two laps of 2.5 km each. The route is mostly on paths with some road crossings to join sections; no major roads are used. Noted hazards include concrete posts, other posts, bins, bus shelters, cobbled road sections, some tight turns, pedestrians and road vehicles. Marshals are positioned at road crossings and the event uses scorers and video to record lap completion.
Race registration to collect race numbers takes place in the Market Square and is scheduled between 7:45am and 8:30am. Available car parks include Queen Street, Portmill Lane, the area by the Queen Mother Theatre and Hollow Lane. Car parks on Sundays are free. Local toilets are available at Starbucks and the market.
Race rules state a minimum entry age of 11 on race day. Music players are not permitted. Runners must follow marshal instructions because the route is not traffic free. In wet or extreme weather conditions the surface may be slippery and the race may be postponed. Entries are non transferable and non refundable.
Cash prizes are offered for first to third places in both male and female categories with prize amounts to be confirmed. All runners receive a medal and post race nibbles. Results are published on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
