Event overview
The Hitchin 5 is scheduled for 27 September 2026. Entry cost is £13 (early bird) or £14. The event is a timed race; entrants receive an entry number, a timing chip and a finisher medal.
Course
The course consists of two laps of 2.5 km each. The route is mostly on paths, with some road crossings to join sections of the route; no major roads are used. Noted hazards include concrete posts, other posts, bins, bus shelters, cobbled road sections, some tight turns, pedestrians and road vehicles.
Registration and logistics
Organisers will contact entrants to confirm details and typically allow collection of race numbers the day before or on race day. Race number pickup takes place in the Market Square. Car parks are available on Queen Street (opposite the church), Portmill Lane, by the Queen Mother Theatre, Hollow Lane and other nearby roads. Car parks on Sundays are free. Public toilets in the market and a local coffee shop are available.
Rules and safety
Minimum age for entry is 11 years on race day. The race is not traffic free; marshals will be positioned at road crossings and must be obeyed. No music players are permitted. Scorers will record lap completion and video will be used for any discrepancies. Runners should take care on slippery surfaces in wet conditions. The race may be postponed in extreme weather. Entries are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Prizes
Cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in both male and female categories; prize amounts will be confirmed closer to the event. All runners receive a medal and post-race nibbles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
