About the race
Now in its tenth year, the Hitchin Town Centre 5 km is a road race through the centre of Hitchin organised by BurntHare. The route passes the historic market square, the riverside path and the steel statues by Cooper's Yard.
The course is two 2.5 km laps on fully marked and marshalled streets. It starts on the High Street, weaves across the river, heads past Windmill Hill, loops onto Payne's Park and returns down towards the start. Chip timing is used throughout.
Entry fees vary and online entries close in the week of the race. An event t-shirt is available at additional cost. UK Athletics rules apply. No dogs, buggies or cycles are allowed on the course, and headphones are not permitted on the closed-road sections.
Every finisher receives a medal. Trophies are awarded to first, second and third overall for male and female categories, and age-category prizes are given in 10-year bands. The event is based on Hitchin High Street, SG5 1AY. Town centre car parks at Queen Street, Portmill Lane and Hollow Lane are a short walk away. Organisers ask that people do not park along the race route and note that parking is usually limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
