The Hitchin 10km
The Hitchin 10km is a road race that starts and finishes in Hitchin town centre and includes the Herts County Senior Championships. The event also includes a Children's Golden Mile for younger runners.
Distances:
- 10 km - 10 km road race, ages 15 and over
- Children's Golden Mile - 1 mile fun run, ages 5 to 14
The course begins with a one-kilometre north loop on closed roads around the town run anti-clockwise. Runners then follow a clockwise south loop out towards Gosmore and Charlton before returning to Hitchin for another one-kilometre loop and a town centre finish. The route is classified as flat with one small climb.
Entry details note that online entries close the week of the race and that entry includes a finisher's medal for 10 km participants. UK Athletics rules apply to the 10 km. No music players are permitted because of road crossings.
Prizes include a medal for every 10 km finisher, trophies for first, second and third overall for men and women, and a certificate plus a small prize for every Golden Mile finisher.
The event is not traffic-free; marshals oversee road crossings and participants must follow marshal instructions.
