Hindsight Ultra Trail Runs : Dixon, IL

Hindsight Ultra Trail Runs is a grassroots multi-distance trail event held on Dixon Park District property in Dixon, IL. The event uses a single loop course that starts behind the Dixon Park District Facility and is run repeatedly to reach each distance.

The loop measures about 7.85 miles. The loop-based distances are:

  • 25K - 2 loops
  • 50K - 4 loops
  • 100K - 8 loops
  • 100 Miler - 13 loops (about 103 miles)

The course avoids water crossings and mountains and combines varied surfaces: roughly 50% singletrack, 30% grassy meadow paths, and 20% gravel paths. Total elevation for the 100 mile distance is roughly 6,200 feet, averaging just under 60 feet per mile. Runners should expect tree roots, small stumps, rocks, and other singletrack features.

There are two aid stations: a Start/Finish station with water, snacks, and hot food options through the night plus shared contributions from volunteers and runners, and a water-only station located at about 3.7 miles. Crew access is permitted at the Start/Finish and the aid station, which is approximately a one third mile walk from Start/Finish. Pacers are allowed after the first lap and may join or leave at the Start/Finish or the aid station. Personal canopies are permitted on a first come first serve basis. No campers are allowed.

Finishers of the 25K, 50K, and 100K receive medals; 100 mile finishers receive a buckle. The event maintains formal results while preserving a grassroots atmosphere. To be eligible for top finisher awards, runners must start at their designated start time. Park district rules apply and runners are responsible for the conduct of their crew while on park property.
