Checkpoints are the only locations where crew or a runner’s drop bag may provide aid. Runners may choose their own route between points but must visit all points in the specified order.

The most practical route is estimated at 90 to 105 miles with over 40,000 ft of cumulative elevation gain. Completing the course requires returning to Lake City before a 48-hour cutoff. The route passes over multiple high peaks in the San Juan Mountains, including five 14,000-foot summits and six 13,000-foot summits.

Logistics and rules
