Hickory 5K Series
The Hickory 5K Series is a collection of five distinct running events held in Hickory, North Carolina, throughout the year. Participants have the option to register for individual races or the entire series. The schedule features:
- Easter Egg Scramble 5K (March) at the Hickory Riverwalk Trail
- Aviation 5K (May) at L.P. Frans Stadium and Winkler Park
- Lightning Bug Boogie 5K (August) at Hickory City Park
- Ruff, Ruff, Run 5K & Dog Festival (September) at Winkler Park
- Trick or Trot 5K (October) at the Highland Recreation Center
The courses vary in terrain and setting. The Easter Egg Scramble utilizes wooded trails and a bridge over Lake Hickory. The Aviation 5K is primarily on the Aviation Trail and includes a pedestrian bridge crossing. The Lightning Bug Boogie is a night run on single-track and paved trails, requiring a headlamp. The Ruff, Ruff, Run is a two-lap course that allows participants to run with dogs.
The series uses a point system to track performance across all events. Runners earn points based on their finishing position in each race, which contribute to season-long standings. Awards are determined by the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in age groups ranging from 0-9 to 70+. Participants who register for the full series use a single bib number for all five events. Custom designed T-shirts are provided to those who meet the early registration deadlines.
