Hibernal Hills 50 Miles
The Hibernal Hills event is a season-opening set of single-loop trail races that start and finish at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Horndean. Distances offered at the event include:
- 50 miles
- 50 km
- 20 miles
The route for the main event follows the Staunton and Monarchs Ways for the first 50 km before joining the South Downs Way back to the finish at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. The course is described as runnable but undulating, with some longer climbs and approximately 6400 ft of ascent. Terrain is predominantly trail with very little road.
The 50-mile race is listed as a UTMB Index event and is worth 3 ITRA points. The race is fully waymarked for navigation and includes regular aid stations along the route. Timing uses chip timing and live GPS tracking. The event package includes a bespoke finisher medal, prize categories for veteran age groups, event insurance, and on-course first aid and medical cover.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must hold a qualifying marathon result within that race’s cutoff time from the past four years. Organisers advise experience of winter and night trail running for this event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
