Course and logistics
All races start and finish at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. The route is mostly trail (99% trail, 1% road) and is described as runnable but undulating, with some longer hills. The 50-mile course features about 6400 ft of ascent and descent. The first 50 km follows the Staunton and Monarchs Ways before joining the South Downs Way back to the finish. There are 7 aid stations on the course. The event uses live GPS tracking and chip timing; a mandatory GPS tracker is included in the advertised 50-mile entry fee of £105.
Entry, qualification and policies
Entrants must be at least 20 years old. A qualifier is required: completion of at least a marathon within that race’s cutoff time in the last four years; an official race result must be viewable online. Experience of trail running in winter and during darkness is advised. Event permits are granted through the ARC (permit number pending). The standard refund policy allows a 50% refund until 6 November 2025; after that no refunds except for pregnancy (full refund if notified before the race). Deferral and transfer options are available with limits and possible fees. The race is a UTMB Index event worth 3 ITRA points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
