Event Overview
Heroes on the Run is a community run and festival in Bend's Old Mill District. In 2026, it is part of the larger Heroes & Hounds celebration, partnering with the Hungry Hound Doggolympics. The event supports animal rescue and medical care.
Race Details
The event features three professionally timed running events:
- Heroes on the Run 10K
- Heroes on the Run 5K
- Kids Mini Run
The 5K and 10K courses run along the Deschutes River on a mix of pavement and compacted gravel, with minimal elevation gain. The 5K route is stroller-friendly. The 10K route extends onto a more natural, narrower trail south of the Bill Healy Bridge.
Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome at the races.
Registration & Perks
Every registered runner receives a custom finisher medal. A complimentary beer is offered for participants aged 21 and over. Race shirts and bandanas for dogs are available as optional add-ons. Kids Mini Run participants receive a Street Dog Hero cape, mask, and a finisher medal.
Awards are given to the top three men's and women's finishers in adult and youth categories. Winners select prizes from a table featuring gift cards, gear, and local experiences.
Festival Activities
After the morning races, the celebration continues with a live frisbee show by JD Platt & The K9 Kings. The Hungry Hound Doggolympics feature an obstacle agility course, high jump, a 50-yard sprint, and a best trick competition for dogs. The event site also includes a Kids Zone with a bouncy house and face painting, local vendors, food and beverage options, and adoptable dogs on-site.
The race registration, start, and finish take place on the grass near the entrance to the Hayden Homes Amphitheater. Festival activities are held across the river on the lawn at Greg's Grill. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
