Event details

The Heptonstall Fell Race takes place in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire. The route is classed by the Fell Runners Association as a BL (long) race. Distance is 24.8 km / 15.4 miles with 966 metres / 3170 feet of ascent (FRA category B). Registration is at St Thomas Church, HX7 7NT. Entry is by pre-entry only, via SiEntries from 17 January 2026, with a stated pre-entry fee of £15. Entry on the day is not available. Minimum age is 18. The race holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.

Course and logistics

The route crosses steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. The course includes grassy slopes, boggy stretches, heather, dense woodland and open moorland. The race information notes two cut-off points at Walshaw Farm; runners outside the cut-offs will be instructed to retire and the organisers reserve the right to alter cut-off times depending on weather and marshal decisions.

Parking is provided at village and external locations (postcodes given as HX7 7LT and HX7 7EU). One parking field near Draper Corner requests a £1 donation. Registration and race-day operations use local village facilities. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food.
