Heptonstall Fell Race
The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL event that follows a 25 kilometre route around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The course runs over steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland, and includes grassy slopes, stretches of bog, thick heather and dense woodland. Runners start on the ancient cobbled main street and registration takes place in the adjacent church.
Entrants must be 18 or older on the day. FRA rules apply and full FRA kit is required, including full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Race entry includes tea and flapjacks at the finish line and a Thai curry at the village pub prize giving.
The event is organised as a not for profit community race. Proceeds are donated to local groups including the Scouts, Guides, Church, Mountain Rescue and CROWs. Event parking is provided in a field at postcode HX7 7EU for a fee of £1, with those proceeds also donated to local groups.
