Heptonstall Fell Race, 22 March 2026

The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL fell race around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The course covers about 24.8 km (15.4 miles) with approximately 966 metres of ascent and crosses a mixture of steep wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland.

The race starts from Weavers Square, Heptonstall, with registration at St Thomas Church (HX7 7NT). Parking is provided at village locations (HX7 7EU and HX7 7LT) with a small donation requested. Entry is by pre entry only via SiEntries from 17 January and the published entry fee is £15. Entrants must be 18 or over on the day. There is no entry on the day and teams are not permitted. Junior races are not held.

The event operates under FRA rules and holds the associated permit and insurance. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The route is partly marked and requires navigational skill; local knowledge may be an advantage. Two cut off points are planned at Walshaw Farm, set at 2 hours 15 minutes and 3 hours after the start; competitors outside these times will be instructed to retire.
