Heptonstall Fell Race
The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL event around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The course is 25 kilometres and crosses steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. Runners negotiate grassy slopes, stretches of bog, thick heather and dense woodland, with extended sections over open countryside and wide views across the South Pennines.
The race starts on the ancient cobbled main street, with a welcome and blessing from the vicar; registration is in the adjacent church. Race entry includes tea and flapjacks at the finish and an authentic Thai curry at the village pub prize giving. The event is run on a not for profit basis and proceeds are donated to local groups including Scouts, Guides, Church, Mountain Rescue and CROWs.
FRA rules apply and full FRA kit is required. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Entrants must be 18 or older on the day of the event. Entries open on 9 January 2027 and close on 19 March 2027. A parking field at HX7 7EU is available for a £1 donation to local groups.
