Heptonstall Fell Race
The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL fell race around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The route is 25 kilometres and passes through steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland.
The race starts on the ancient cobbled main street, with registration in the adjacent church. The course includes grassy slopes, stretches of bog, heather, dense woodland and open moorland with wide views across parts of the South Pennines. Race entry includes tea and flapjacks at the finish and a Thai curry at the village pub prize giving.
This is a not-for-profit community event organised by local enthusiasts. Proceeds are donated to local groups including the Scouts, Guides, Church, Mountain Rescue and CROWs. FRA rules apply and full FRA kit is required: full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Entrants must be 18 or older on the day. Entry fee is £15. Entries open on 9 January 2027 and close on 19 March 2027 at 23:58. Event parking is provided in a field at HX7 7EU for £1, with proceeds donated to local groups.
