Heptonstall Fell Race
The Heptonstall Fell Race is a Category BL fell race taking place around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The route is 25 kilometres long and passes through steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. The race starts on the ancient cobbled main street, with registration in the adjacent church.
The event is run as a not for profit community event. Race proceeds are donated to local groups including Scouts, Guides, Church, Mountain Rescue and CROWs. Event parking is available in a field at HX7 7EU for a £1 charge, with proceeds donated to local groups.
Entries open on Saturday 9 January 2027 and close on Friday 19 March 2027. The entry fee is £15. Entrants must be 18 or older on the day of the event.
Race entry includes tea and flapjacks at the finish and an authentic Thai curry at the village pub prize giving. The event is governed by FRA rules and requires full FRA kit. Required kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food.
The route includes grassy slopes, boggy stretches, thick heather and dense woodland, offering wide views across remote South Pennines countryside where visibility allows. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
