Event details

The Heptonstall Fell Race is set in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire, with the start at Weavers Square. The course distance is 24.8 km / 15.4 miles and the total ascent is 966 metres / 3170 feet. The race is FRA classified as Long and FRA category B. Entry is by pre-entry via SiEntries from Saturday 17 January 2026 and the entry fee is £15. Registration takes place at St Thomas Church, HX7 7NT. Parking is available in a field at the top of the village near Draper Corner (HX7 7EU) for a £1 donation.

Course, categories and requirements

The route covers about 25 kilometres of mixed terrain including steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. The description notes grassy slopes, boggy stretches, heather, dense woodland and open countryside. Categories listed for the event are NS (Navigational Skills Required), LK (Local Knowledge an advantage) and PM (Course Partially Marked). Mandatory kit includes full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The organisers plan two cut-off points at Walshaw Farm: the first at about 2 hours 15 minutes after the start (about 1 km before CP4) and the second at about 3 hours after the start after passing CP6.
