Hemingway 5K Sunset Run
The Hemingway 5K Sunset Run is an annual athletic event held in Key West, Florida, celebrating the sporting lifestyle of author Ernest Hemingway. The event features a run through historic Old Town and surrounding waterfront areas. Participants can choose between different activities across the race weekend:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Paddle Board Race
- Key West Beach N' Beer Mile
The 5K Run/Walk starts at the Southernmost Point and concludes with an awards beach party featuring live entertainment, raffles, and refreshments including local rum and beer. The Beach N' Beer Mile is a non-timed, casual event held on the sand. It consists of four loops where participants consume a beverage during each lap. Costumes are encouraged for this portion, with prizes awarded for team spirit and dress.
A separate Paddleboard Race is also part of the festivities. Participants in the water event are required to have a Personal Flotation Device. Rental options for boards are available through local outfitters.
Additional weekend activities include the Hemingway Rum Stroll, which visits eight different locations, and a pool party at a local resort. All participants receive a custom race shirt and a finisher medal featuring artwork inspired by the local culture of the Florida Keys. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
