Heat Wave 24
Heat Wave 24 is an ultrarunning event organized by the Kansas Ultrarunners' Society (KUS). It takes place on June 12-13, 2026, on the USATF-certified 400-meter track at Rose Hill District Stadium in Rose Hill, Kansas.
Events
Participants can choose from several timed events:
- 24 Hours
- 12 Hours
- 6 Hours
- 12 Hours - Night
- 6 Hours - Night
The daytime events (24 Hours, 12 Hours, and 6 Hours) begin at 6:00 AM on Friday, June 12. The nighttime events (12 Hours - Night and 6 Hours - Night) begin at 6:00 PM on the same day. Every three hours during the event, the direction of travel on the track changes.
Course and Timing
The course is a 400-meter track. Participants' laps are counted via a live chip timing system, with a screen displaying cumulative distance. The official race distance is measured by the timing service, which may differ from personal devices. For fairness, all questions about lap counts must be directed to a Race Director or designated appointee, not the timing officials.
Aid and Logistics
A primary aid station provides ice, water, electrolyte drink, and light food items such as fruit, chips, cookies, ramen, and mashed potatoes. This is a cup-less race, so participants must bring their own drinking vessel. Participants can set up their own supplies in designated areas around the track. Pacers are not allowed during the event. Tents and pop-up shelters are only permitted in designated areas, not on the infield turf.
Awards
All participants receive a race t-shirt and other items in a welcome packet. All finishers receive a medal. Custom belt buckles are awarded for completing distances of 50K, 50 miles, 100K, or 100 miles. The top male and female finisher in each event receives a trophy. A special "Doubler" award is available for those who also complete a related KUS event in November.
Rules and Notes
Detailed track etiquette rules are provided to ensure safety and flow for all participants. The event features "Yeti Cup Challenges" – shorter races within the main event held at specific times. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at all times. Due to the track's proximity to homes, participants must keep noise to a minimum during nighttime hours. The event does not have on-site medical personnel; seeking care is at the participant's discretion. Registration discounts are available for Kansas Ultrarunners' Society members.
