DRC Smokin' 5K
The DRC Smokin' 5K is a running event held in conjunction with the Smoke on the Plains BBQ Festival in Derby, Kansas. The race takes place on a 5 km course that is USATF certified. The route starts and finishes within High Park, specifically located on the north end of the park between the upper and lower parking lots. From the park, the course leads participants through the city streets of Derby.
Registered participants receive a race shirt, though availability is only guaranteed for those who register by May 31. All runners who complete the course receive a finisher medal at the finish line. Competitors are eligible for various accolades, including awards for the overall fastest male and female runners, as well as first-place awards within specific age groups.
Packet pick-up is organized the day before the event at the Derby Recreation Center guest services desk. Because the race route involves city streets, local road closures are implemented early on the morning of the event. The race registration is categorized as non-refundable and non-transferable. Additionally, the first 50 people to register for the event are entered into a raffle for a chance to win a fire pit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
