The Wichita Mile
The Wichita Mile is a USATF certified road race series of one mile events held in Wichita, Kansas. The series includes four named races and a four-seasons bundle: The Winter One, The Spring 1609, The Summer Switch Up, and The Fall 5280. Each individual race distance is one mile.
Races are organized into waves based on runners estimated pace so participants run with athletes of similar speed. The Summer Switch Up departs from pace waves and uses weight class waves instead; entrants choose a weight class during registration and there is a special award for winners of each wave or weight class.
Locations used for the series include Sims Park and The Independent School track; the Fall event location is listed as to be determined. Packet pickup for each race is handled at Fartleks, 535 W Douglas Ave, Ste 130, Wichita. Giveaway items vary by race and have included custom stocking caps and custom socks; some giveaway items are listed as TBD.
Registration details differ by event and a four season bundle is offered for the full series. Entry fees for individual races are listed at thirty dollars and the four seasons bundle fee is listed at one hundred dollars. The organizer states there are no refunds if a race is canceled, and optional insurance is offered at checkout to cover potential cancellations.
