Event overview
The HOWUM 2026 is a 30-mile ultra marathon on 2 May 2026 that starts and finishes at Dol Lys Camp Ground in Llanidloes. The route passes Clywedog Reservoir and the source of the River Severn. The course follows sections of the Sarn, Glyndwr's Way, Severn Way and the Wye Valley Walk. The total elevation gain on the course is listed as 4,356 ft. Terrain is described as 80% trail and 20% road.
Course and logistics
There are 3 fully manned and stocked checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints provide snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seats, power banks and music; dietary requirements can be accommodated at sign-up. The organiser states there are no time limits for completion. Mandatory kit items include appropriate footwear, a 1-litre water carrier, a mobile phone, a head lamp or other light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack. Entry includes a Pegasus medal, post-race care, staffed checkpoints and race crew support. Route files are supplied via Plotaroute for navigation and may be updated before the event.
