Event overview

The HOWUM 2026 is a 30-mile ultra marathon held in the Heart of Wales. The race starts and finishes at Dol Lys Camp Ground in Llanidloes. The total ascent for the route is 4,356 ft. There are no time limits for participants.

Course and logistics

The circular route combines four established trails: the Sarn, Glyndwr's Way, Severn Way and the Wye Valley Walk. The course passes the Clywedog Reservoir and reaches the source of the River Severn. Terrain is listed as about 80% trail and 20% road. The route map is available for download from Plotaroute.

Support and kit

There are three fully manned checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints are stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks and music. Mandatory kit includes appropriate footwear, a 1 litre water carrier, a mobile phone, a headlamp or other light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack.
