Heart & Sole 5K

The Heart & Sole 5K is the fourth annual event organized by the Preventive Medicine Initiative (PMI). Located in Galveston, this event focuses on community health and lifestyle improvements. The event draws a significant number of participants and offers a path for individuals to transition toward an active lifestyle.

The event features two primary participation formats:

  • Heart & Sole 5K (In-Person)
  • Heart & Sole VIRTUAL 5K

Participants who choose the in-person option will finish their run at a festival featuring snacks, drinks, and games. For those unable to attend in person, the virtual option provides a digital bib and the opportunity to pick up packets and finisher prizes. Registration is public, meaning there is no requirement to be a resident of Galveston or affiliated with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

A portion of the proceeds from the race supports the Mobility Clinic at UTMB, a student organization that provides footwear and footcare to underserved populations in the local community. The organizers also coordinate beginner training sessions in the weeks leading up to the race at the UTMB Field House.

The course is open to strollers, though pets are restricted to the finisher festival area only. Registration closes once all available spots are filled or on the day before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
