Heart of a Lion 5K Run/Walk
The Heart of a Lion event is a chip-timed community 5K held in Jackson, Michigan at Ella Sharp Park, with proceeds benefiting Jackson Area 19 Special Olympics. The event offers a 5K run, a 5K walk, and a free Kids Fun Run.
Registration pricing varies by date; T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by August 6 and are available afterward while supplies last. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the event at the Special Olympics Michigan Area 19 office and there is race day packet pickup at the park. Race day registration is available.
Awards are presented to the top male and female finishers in Open (all ages) and Masters (40 and over) categories for both the run and the walk. Age-group awards are given to top three finishers in each listed age division for the 5K run and the 5K walk. Results are available live during the event and posted online.
The race is professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation and is part of the ORS Race Series. Dogs are not permitted at the event except for service dogs. All proceeds remain in Jackson County to support year-round sports training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities.
