Heart of a Lion 5K Run/Walk
The Heart of a Lion event is the 12th annual Special Olympics Michigan Area 19 (Jackson County) chip timed 5K Run and Walk at Ella Sharp Park, 2800 Fourth St., Jackson, MI. Proceeds benefit the Jackson Area 19 Special Olympics and support year round sports training and competition for persons with intellectual disabilities. All proceeds stay in Jackson County.
Event distances include:
- 5k Run, 3.1 Miles
- 5k Walk, 3.1 Miles
- Kids Fun Run, free
Registration pricing follows tiers: $30 through August 6 with a guaranteed T shirt for those registrants, $35 from August 7 to August 22 with shirts while supplies last, and $40 on race day with no shirt guarantee. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at the SOMI office at 210 East McDevitt, Jackson, MI, with additional race day packet pickup and registration at Ella Sharp Park.
Awards are presented to top male and female finishers in Open, Masters (40+), and Grand Masters (60+) for both the 5k Run and 5k Walk. Age group awards are given to the top three in each age group. Results will be available live during the event and posted online. Service dogs are permitted; other dogs are not. The race is professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation and is part of the ORS Race Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
