Heart of a Lion 5K Run/Walk
The Heart of a Lion is a chip timed 5K Run and Walk held on August 23, 2026, at Ella Sharp Park, 2800 Fourth St., Jackson, MI 49203. The event includes a separate Kids Fun Run that has no entry fee.

- 5k Run, 3.1 miles
- 5k Walk, 3.1 miles
- Kids Fun Run, free
Overall awards are given to the top male and female finishers in Open and Masters (40+) categories for both the 5k Run and the 5k Walk. Age group awards are presented to the top three places in each age group. Specified 5k Run age groups range from 0-12 up to 85 and over. 5k Walk age groups include ranges from 0-19 up to 70 and over.
Packet pickup is scheduled for the day before the event at the SOMI office, 210 East McDevitt, Jackson, MI 49203, and race day packet pickup and registration are available at the race location. Results are available live during the event and posted online.
No dogs are permitted at the event except service dogs. The race is professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation and is part of the ORS Race Series. Proceeds benefit Jackson Area 19 Special Olympics to support year round sports training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities.
