HBCU STEM Education Run - Huntsville
The HBCU STEM Education Run is a fundraising run with both in person and virtual participation options. The event supports scholarships and career resources for students in STEM at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Funds raised are dedicated each year to an HBCU. The event’s mission statement for the signature 5K is "Educate, Empower, and Elevate HBCU STEM Students through Scholarships and Career Resources".
The event takes place on the Oakwood University campus in Huntsville, Alabama. Multiple distance options are offered:
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Virtual Family Fun Run/Walk
- 5K Virtual Run/Walk
- 13.1 Miles Virtual Half Marathon
- 5K Team of 10
Registration benefits vary by distance but include items such as a commemorative finisher medal, official premium tech T shirt for some options, swag bags or virtual swag, a runner bib or digital bib, and access to a four week training program for certain distances. Participants may create or join teams and use a fundraising page to raise funds. A team entry option includes team headbands. The in person course is USATF certified. Onsite packet pickup is available before the in person race. There is an awards program and a scholarship presentation as part of the event schedule. Strollers are welcome.
