Hayfield May Queen
The Hayfield May Queen is a village fell race held in mid-May as part of the local May Queen festivities. The event is conducted under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules and follows a route that includes the summit of Lantern Pike.
The race covers a distance of 3 miles (approximately 4.8 km) with 700 feet of total ascent. Registration and the starting line are located at the Scout Hut (GR SK035872).
While the event is primarily for seniors, juniors aged 12 and over are permitted to participate in the senior race following FRA guidelines. There is no separate course provided for children under 12. Because the race follows FRA regulations, all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or they must provide a completed FRA parental consent form at the time of entry.
Participation is managed through entry on the day of the event only. There is no pre-registration available for this race. The event maintains a long history of competition, with course records dating back to 2006. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
