Event overview

The Stanza Stones Ultra is a 50 mile linear trail race in the South Pennines with about 6800 ft of ascent. The route links Marsden and Ilkley and passes six carved stones named Snow, Rain, Mist, Dew, Puddle and Beck. The course goes over high moorland and drops into valleys, and includes sections of the Pennine Way, Stoodley Pike, Haworth and Ilkley Moor. The route also visits the village of Haworth.

Minimum age for entry is 20 years. Races are planned as a winter edition on 29 November 2025 and a summer edition on 6 June 2026.

Logistics and support

The race starts at Marsden Cricket Club and finishes at Ben Rhydding Primary School in Ilkley. There is an optional coach transfer from Ilkley to Marsden on race morning. Free camping is available at the finish school on the nights before and of the event. Registration is available the evening before and on race morning.

On-course support includes food at three indoor checkpoints located in Mytholmroyd, Haworth and Bingley, live OpenTracking coverage, and finish-line facilities such as a finisher memento, an optional finisher T-shirt, a finishers meal and changing rooms. Route maps are provided in separate leg files and GPX files are available. Volunteers may marshal the event and receive race credit for future events.
