Do the Haven Hustle 5K
Do the Haven Hustle 5K is a fundraising road race held in historic downtown Texarkana that benefits Haven Homes of Texarkana, a faith-based nonprofit serving men and women affected by substance abuse and addiction. Haven Homes provides safe housing, work and service programs, counseling, spiritual guidance, a transitional home for women from Bowie County Women’s Center, 12 to 18 month recovery centers for men and women, and sober-living homes for program graduates.
The event features a 5K (3.1 mile) course that starts at 300 Olive St., the former State First National Bank building. The route runs through downtown streets and the railyard, including Front Street, Broad Street, Pecan Street, 6th Street, Laurel Street, 3rd Street, Wood Street, 5th Street near the Federal Courthouse and Post Office, 4th Street, and Main Street before returning to Wood Street for the finish. The course passes local landmarks such as Saint Edwards Catholic Church, Beech Street Baptist Church, First United Methodist, the Stateline Federal Building and Post Office, the Perot Theater, Hotel Grim, Silvermoon on Broad, City Hall, war memorials, the Arts Park, and several public murals.
Event weekend includes Friday night packet pick-up and a Saturday car show at Beech Street Baptist Church with food trucks, games, trophies, and prizes. Early registration for the 5K is $35 and late registration is $45. Car show registration is $25 or a donation of hygiene products valued at $25.
