Halloween-Themed Running Event in Salt Lake City
The Haunted Salt Lake City event is a themed race featuring multiple distances and festive elements. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes while competing in organized runs through scenic and decorated areas. The event concludes at Sugar House Park, where runners pass through a Spook Alley tunnel and finish under a giant inflatable pumpkin arch.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5K
- Kids Run (0.5 miles)
The Half Marathon course begins at Little Mountain Summit and proceeds down Emigration Canyon. This downhill route takes runners past various Halloween-themed decorations, including a graveyard and specialized tunnels. The 5K is an out-and-back race held entirely within Sugar House Park. The Kids Run takes place on a grass area near the finish line and includes a half-mile dash through the Spook Alley.
For the Half Marathon, specific transportation rules apply. Participants are required to use the provided shuttle buses from Highland High School to the start line, as self-transportation is not permitted. The event also features a costume contest for individuals and groups, held prior to the start of the races.
Course amenities include aid stations placed at regular intervals, providing water and electrolytes. Specific stations on the longer course also offer energy gels. The finish line area hosts a celebration with music, food, and photo opportunities. Finishers receive a themed medal, and top performers in various age categories are eligible for awards. Professional timing services are used for all distances, utilizing chips attached to participant bibs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
