Hammerhead Olympic & Sprint Triathlon (Starke, FL)
The event takes place at Camp Blanding, Starke, Florida, with the swim in Kingsley Lake and bike and run courses contained within the military reservation. The bike courses include one or two loops through rolling hills and tall pines on base. Run courses are out-and-back routes with limited shade and aid stations.
Distances offered include:
- Sprint Triathlon: 0.3 mile swim, 20K bike, 5K run
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run
- Sprint Duathlon: 2 mile run, 20K bike, 5K run
- Sprint Aquabike: 0.3 mile swim, 20K bike
- Olympic Aquabike: 1.5K swim, 40K bike
All athletes check in at the front gate and receive a gate pass included in the athlete packet; a non-expired photo ID is required for base access. Family and guests must be registered in advance to be listed on the gate roster by Wednesday, August 5. Pets are not allowed on the base.
Awards are presented overall, by masters, and in five-year age groups with three deep awards in all categories. A cash prize is offered to the triathlon club with the most participants, subject to a minimum entry requirement; one local club is not eligible. Proceeds support local Jacksonville charities and the event is supported by volunteer organizations that staff aid stations, parking, and course coverage.
