Hammerhead Olympic & Sprint Triathlon
The event takes place at Camp Blanding in Starke, Florida, with swim courses in Kingsley Lake. Multiple race formats are offered, including Sprint and Olympic triathlons, aquabike options, and a sprint duathlon.
Swims are held in freshwater at Kingsley Lake and use single loop swim courses. Bike courses run entirely within Camp Blanding on base roads with little expected traffic and a few rolling hills; the Olympic bike is two loops and the Sprint bike is one loop. Run courses are out and back with limited shade and aid stations; the Olympic run course includes seven water stations.
Athlete entry to Camp Blanding requires check in at the front gate and presentation of a non expired photo ID. Athletes receive a gate pass with their packet for entry. Family and guests must register in advance to appear on the roster at the gate and present a photo ID for access. Pets are not allowed on base.
Awards are given overall and by masters, and age group awards are three deep in five year age groups. Top finishers receive awards in several divisions. A cash prize is available for the triathlon club with the most participants subject to a minimum of ten members; one local club is not eligible to win. Proceeds benefit local Jacksonville charities.
