The 50K is an out-and-back that traverses all sections of the Pioneer Trail and adds an out-and-back on Section 5; it includes more than 2,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. The marathon follows much of the same route with added mileage differences, beginning at the Dunns Farm Trailhead and proceeding through the Cross Cut section (about 2.5 miles of flat single track), Section 4 (about 2.7 miles of steeper, more technical terrain with vistas over Black Creek), a four-way junction, Mt. Reagan, and the “enchanted forest” southern segment to Indian Ford at the turnaround. The marathon accumulates roughly 2,000 feet of elevation gain and loss.
The 50K has an 11-hour time limit and the marathon has a 10-hour time limit. The event is cup-less; participants need personal hydration systems. Aid stations are supplied approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles with water, electrolyte nutrition, and standard ultra fare, and porta-potties are provided at the turnaround/drop bag site and start/finish.
Course maps and a GPX file are provided; timing is managed via Webscorer. Beneficiaries include Friends of Florida State Forest and Foundations of Freedom.
