This ain't your Mothers 50k & Trail Marathon

This event is the sixth annual running of This ain't your Mothers 50k & Trail Marathon, organized by Sombrero Running in Middleburg, Florida at the Pioneer Trail in Jennings State Forest.

The Pioneer Trail is mostly single track and was created in 2019. Sections include varied terrain, waterfalls, walkover stream crossings, and vistas along the Black Creek Ravines. Section 4 is about 2.7 miles and is described as the most vertical and technical portion. A newly added Section 5 is included on the 50K out and back.

The 50K is an out and back that traverses all trail sections and adds mileage by including Section 5, with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. The marathon is also an out and back that begins at the Dunns Farm Trailhead, follows the Cross Cut section of about 2.5 miles of flat single track, then moves into Section 4 with scenic overlooks, reaches a four way junction, passes Mt. Reagan and the so called enchanted forest, and turns near Indian Ford. The marathon’s total elevation gain and loss is about 2,000 feet.

There are time limits for the long races and a hard cutoff at the four way junction on the return trip. The 12K and 7K follow portions of the marathon course; the 7K is noted as closer to five miles. The event is cup less so participants must carry their own hydration. Aid stations appear approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles and provide water, electrolyte nutrition and standard ultra race fare, with at least one porta pottie at the turnaround and at the start and finish. Course maps and a GPX file are provided. Awards include overall top three by race category, masters awards starting at age 50, and finishers recognized for last place in each division.
