Trail Race in Jennings State Forest
The 6th annual This ain't your Mothers 50k & Trail Marathon takes place in Jennings State Forest, located in Middleburg, Florida, near Jacksonville. The event utilizes the Pioneer Trail, a system of single-track paths established in 2019. The terrain varies by section and includes features such as waterfalls, stream crossings, and vistas overlooking the Black Creek Ravines.
Participants can choose from four distinct distances:
- 50 km
- Trail Marathon
- 12 km
- 7 km (approximately 5 miles)
The 50 km and Marathon courses are out-and-back routes. The 50 km includes more than 2,000 feet of elevation gain and loss, traversing technical terrain including Section 4 and the newly added Section 5. The Marathon also features approximately 2,000 feet of elevation gain, crossing the Cross Cut section and Mt. Reagan before reaching the turnaround at Indian Ford. The 12 km and 7 km routes focus on the northern sections of the trail system, including the Sawyer trail and the Many Seeps Bridge.
This is a cup-less event, requiring all participants to carry their own hydration vests or handheld bottles. Aid stations providing water, electrolyte drinks, and food are positioned approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles. There are designated time limits of 11 hours for the 50 km and 10 hours for the Marathon, with hard cut-offs enforced at specific junctions on the return trip.
Overall awards are presented to the top three finishers in each category, along with Masters awards for participants aged 50 and over. Technical race shirts are provided to those who register by the specified deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
