15th Annual Hamden Hills Half Marathon & Flat 5K
The Hamden Hills Half Marathon & Flat 5K is an established road race held in Hamden, Connecticut. The event marks its 15th anniversary in 2026, offering two distinct distances for participants:
- Half Marathon
- 5K
The Half Marathon follows a USATF-measured course through the backcountry of Hamden. The route utilizes the New Haven / Northampton Railroad Canal Line rail-trail for the first and last 2 miles, while the middle section features hilly terrain on roads open to traffic. Police and volunteers are stationed at intersections for guidance. A strict 3:30 time cutoff is in place for this distance, with an mandatory early start option for those expecting to finish between 2:30 and 3:30.
The 5K course is 100% situated on the rail-trail. This section is flat and entirely separated from vehicular traffic. Unlike the longer distance, the 5K does not have a time cutoff.
Participants receive short-sleeve tech t-shirts and have access to various amenities. Aid stations providing water and electrolyte drinks are located approximately every 2 miles along the half marathon course. Half Marathon finishers receive a custom medal. Post-race refreshments include bagels and bananas at the finish line located in the Railroad Canal Line parking lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
