Montane Grizedale Forest Trail 13 & 26
The Montane Grizedale Forest Trail takes place from Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre near Hawkshead in the Lake District (LA22 0QJ). Two distances are offered:
- Half Marathon (13 miles) : the first 13 miles of the marathon route on good forest tracks, finishing at Grizedale Visitor Centre.
- Marathon (26 miles) : continues beyond the half-marathon route with an eastern loop towards Windermere and mixed terrain.
The route is described as undulating with varied surfaces; much of it follows forest tracks and there are some road sections. The course includes elevated viewpoints with views towards Coniston and surrounding areas.
Practical details published by the organiser include entry fees, compulsory equipment and eligibility: half marathon entry is £39, marathon entry is £49, and runners must be aged 16 or over on race day. Runners are required to carry items listed on the compulsory kit list. Electronic timing is provided. The half marathon has water at the finish; the marathon has feed stations on the route. A custom finisher’s medal is included and event photographs are available to download after the race.
There are timed cut-offs for the marathon route: Trail 26 runners must reach Food Stop 2 (13 miles) within 3.5 hours of the start, must meet the published cut off at Food Stop 3 (20.5 miles), and the final course cut off for all distances is 7 hours 30 minutes from the start.
