Beyond the Lune Summer Trails

Beyond the Lune Summer Trails is a running event set in the local area of Kirkby Lonsdale and the surrounding parishes of Casterton. The courses utilize a combination of on-road and off-road sections, including local footpaths and bridleways. Participants start and finish at The Royal Barn, located in the center of Kirkby Lonsdale.

The event offers three distinct distances:

  • 20 km route involving a tour of Brownthwaite Pike (Bullpot) and reaching a trig point with views of the Lune Valley.
  • 10 km route using footpaths near Casterton and Bullpot, passing through Devils Bridge.
  • 5 km family-friendly route heading toward Casterton golf club and back along the river.

All routes conclude by navigating the river path and the "99 steps" before returning to the finish line. The event emphasizes navigation skills, as participants on the 10 km and 20 km courses are expected to be able to self-navigate using provided GPX files. These longer routes are partially signed, while the 5 km course is fully signed and marshalled.

Registered participants for the longer distances receive a pastry and a hot drink before the start, with a finisher's beer and a seasonal food box provided at the end. The 5 km entry includes refreshment and cake. Cut-off times are in place for all participants, and runners under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
