Beat The Bounds, Patterdale takes place on 4 July 2026 in Patterdale, Cumbria. The event follows the historic parish boundary of Patterdale and has been run as a local tradition for several decades. Proceeds support Patterdale Church of England School and St Patrick's Church, with entry fees treated as donations split equally between them. The organiser is Patterdale PCC. Participants receive a tracker, bespoke race number, checkpoint food and drinks, and a finisher soup and cake. Bespoke maps and GPX routes will be made available in advance. Cut off points will be applied at Kirkstone Pass and at Boredale Hause to help ensure participant safety.
Distances and logistics
- Full Boundary - 28 miles, 10,200 ft ascent
- 1st Half - 16 miles, 6,500 ft ascent
- 2nd Half - 14 miles, 3,500 ft ascent
- Family / Solo Downhill - approximately 6 miles, downhill via Hartsop Hall
Public transport is available between Patterdale and Kirkstone Pass for those starting from the pass. A checkpoint at Kirkstone Pass is staffed with snacks, hydration and hot and cold drinks. A rolling start is used. Minimum ages and accompaniment rules apply: the full and first half require entrants aged 18 or over; the second half has a lower minimum age with required adult accompaniment; children on the family walk must be accompanied by adults. There is a no refund policy. Discounts are available for Patterdale Parish residents and for qualifying long-distance walking association members (full boundary only).
