Great North Coast Charity Challenge
The Great North Coast Charity Challenge is an annual event that follows roughly 19 miles of coastal paths along the north coast of the Island, with mainly cliff paths and a few roads. The route runs from St Catherine's to Grosnez and finishes at Grosnez Castle car park. Signs marked GNCCC mark the route; participants are asked to keep the sea on their right and head west.
The event supports school improvement projects in Rwanda. Organisers and local partners have been building and renovating classrooms for primary and secondary schools in Rusizi District and supporting individual students. This year the fundraising supports the Street Children’s Lives Matter campaign at St Paul Muko, which has helped return over 400 young people to education.
There is a shorter option of about 10 miles and a virtual challenge for partner schools in Rwanda that follows a route joining partner schools and matches the north coast distance. Volunteers may join short term visits to Rwanda for up to four weeks to work alongside local people, helping to renovate schools or teaching English.
Logistics noted by organisers include free participant T shirts available by size at registration and collection at check in, a coach transfer from the Steam Clock in St Helier in the morning, limited return transport from Grosnez to St Catherine's at regular intervals, and walk numbers issued at check in.
