Great Hucklow Fell Race
The Great Hucklow Fell Race is a community organized event that traverses the border between the Dark Peak and White Peak. The course covers approximately 10 km (6 miles) with a total ascent of about 340 meters (1000 feet). The race is managed by residents of Great Hucklow and neighboring villages, with proceeds supporting local good causes.
- 10 km
The route features a variety of terrains, including fields, tracks, and woodland. The first kilometer is primarily downhill through the village before transitioning to a track. Participants navigate a water splash before beginning the primary climb to the Abney Moor trig point on Durham Edge. This location is situated on private land, and access is granted specifically for the duration of the event.
The course continues across Abney Moor, involving a descent over rough ground toward a small reservoir and another climb to the moor's highest point. A fast descent leading to a road section precedes an entry into Bretton Clough, where participants encounter uneven ground and a water crossing. The final stages involve a climb toward Abney Grange, followed by field sections and a woodland track that returns to the finish line at the school.
The event requires all participants to be 18 years of age or older. Runners must report to registration between 09:30 and 10:30 to collect race numbers. Flapjacks prepared by the local community are provided to participants at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
