Granite Peaks 25k (NIMRA)

The Granite Peaks 25k is a mountain running event based at Tollymore Forest Park, County Down, with start and finish at the Tollymore National Outdoor Centre. The course distance is 25.10 km with total climb of 1,359 m. The event is rated 10 (Extreme) and only major junctions are marked. GPS devices are allowed.

The route leaves Tollymore Forest Park and passes the Kings Grave before following the Trassey Track toward Happy Valley. Runners cross the Mourne Wall at the col between Meelmore and Meelbeg, follow the wall in an anti clockwise direction to the stile at the col between Slieve Loughshannagh and Carn Mountain, then descend between Loughshannagh and Doan to the top of Ben Crom Dam. The race crosses the dam, climbs over Slievelamaghan, traverses Cove and Beg mountains, descends onto the Brandy Pad and follows that track to Hare’s Gap. From the sheep pen at the top of Trassey Track the route returns down Trassey Track into Tollymore, passing the Kings Grave to finish at the National Outdoor Centre.

Mandatory Level C kit must be carried and includes a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL of water, emergency food, and a map and compass. The final kit to be carried may be confirmed on race day and random kit checks may be carried out. Entry is managed through the NIMRA booking platform SIEntries. The race is for seniors only.
