Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K
The Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K returns for its fifth annual edition at Mike Lewis Park on Thanksgiving morning. This holiday event provides a gathering place for the community to participate in physical activity before the holiday festivities. The race organization offers multiple participation formats to accommodate different preferences and ages.
The available distances include:
- 3.1 Miles (5K) running and walking race
- 1K Lil' Gobbler Fun Run for youth ages 5-12
- Virtual race option for off-site participation
The 3.1 Miles course is open to both runners and walkers. For safety purposes, participants with families and strollers are requested to position themselves at the back of the starting group. Participants in the 5K receive a race T-shirt and a finisher's medal, provided registration occurs before the specified T-shirt cutoff date of November 13th. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as the top finishers in age groups ranging from 10-19 to 70-79.
The 1K Youth Fun Run is a safe, easy-to-follow course designed for children. This distance is untimed, focusing on movement and confidence rather than competition. Children receive a race bib, snacks at the finish line, and a finisher award that is separate from the standard 5K medal. Parents are permitted to run or walk alongside their children during this event.
The post-race environment includes festivities and local refreshments, such as slices of pumpkin or sweet potato pie for finishers. The event operates under a strict no-refund policy and takes place regardless of rain or snow, though extreme weather may result in delayed starts or modified course routes.
