Glen Rosa Horseshoe

The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race on the Isle of Arran, centred on the Rangers centre field at Brodick Castle Country Park. The course covers a distance of 20 km with a total ascent of 1670 m.

The route is mostly unmarked and runs over heather and granite. Checkpoints are located at various points on the hill and cut off times apply. Competitors must be able to navigate the route in poor weather, have completed a minimum of two similar races, and carry appropriate kit including map and compass. The event is licensed and insured through Scottish Hill Racing and follows SHR rules.

The race began in 1989, was not held after 2015, and was reinstated in 2025. Awards include trophies for first male and first female overall and first local male and female, plus medals for other overall and veteran categories and team prizes. Prizes are locally sourced and supported by local outdoor sponsors.

Access notes include a roughly 35 minute walk along the fisherman’s walk from the ferry, or alternatives by bicycle or bus. Limited parking is available at the wine port Goatfell car park with a short walk to the Rangers centre field. There are no showers at the race field; nearby freshwater pools are available for a post-event dip. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
