Glen Rosa Horseshoe

The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race located on the Isle of Arran. The event takes place at the Brodick Castle Rangers Centre. This race follows a clock-wise loop that challenges participants to navigate four of Glen Rosa’s summits with minimal use of tarmac surfaces.

The course features a total distance of 20 km with a total ascent of 1670 m. Because the terrain consists mostly of heather and granite, the route is largely unmarked. Participants must navigate between various checkpoints on the hill. Due to the nature of the terrain and elevation, specific entry requirements apply:

  • 20 km hill race with 1670 m of vertical gain.

Registration is open to runners aged 18 or older. To be eligible to enter, participants must have completed a minimum of two similar hill races. Competitors are required to demonstrate the ability to navigate the route effectively, even in poor weather conditions. All runners must carry the appropriate safety kit, including a map and a compass, in accordance with Scottish Hill Runners (SHR) rules.

The race starts from the Rangers centre field at Brodick Castle Country Park. While there are no shower facilities at the finish, there are natural fresh water pools nearby. Trophies and medals are awarded to various categories, including overall winners, local residents, and age groups from V40 to V60. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
