Event Information
The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race. It covers a distance of 20 km with a total climb of 1,670 meters.
The race was started in 1989 with the goal of creating a route on the Isle of Arran with minimal tarmac. It follows a clockwise loop over four summits in the Glen Rosa area. After a hiatus, the event was resurrected in 2025.
Route and Requirements
The course is mostly unmarked, running on heather and granite terrain. There will be checkpoints at various locations on the hill that all participants must visit, and cut-off times will be in place. Runners must be able to navigate the route sufficiently in poor weather conditions.
Participants must have run a minimum of two similar races prior to entry. All competitors must carry appropriate kit, including a map and compass, and follow Scottish Hill Racing (SHR) rules. The race is insured and licensed through the SHR.
Location and Logistics
The event starts and registers at the Rangers Centre field in Brodick Castle Country Park. Participants are advised to arrive on foot, by bike, or by bus if possible. Limited parking is available at the nearby Goatfell car park.
Awards
Trophies are awarded to the first male and female overall finishers, and to the first local male and female finishers. Medals are awarded for various other categories, including age groups and team prizes. Prizes are locally sourced. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
