Glen Rosa Horseshoe
The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race held on the Isle of Arran with the Brodick Castle Rangers Centre as the event location. The route is a clockwise loop of Glen Rosa summits covering a distance of 20 km with a total climb of 1670 m. The course is mostly unmarked and runs over heather and granite.
Entry is limited to competitors aged 18 or older. Runners must have completed at least two similar races and be able to navigate the route in poor weather; all competitors must carry appropriate kit including map and compass and follow SHR rules. There are checkpoints at various hill locations that all runners must visit and there are cut off times.
The race is insured and licensed through SHR. Trophies are awarded to first male and first female overall and to first local male and first local female. Medals are awarded for second and third overall positions in each sex, for first V40, V50 and V60 in each sex, and for the first team back composed of three runners of the same team. Prizes are locally sourced and sponsorship is provided by a local outdoor shop.
Ferry services operate to Arran from Ardrossan and Troon, and there is a ferry route from Claonaig to Lochranza. A campsite is available in Glen Rosa and there are responsible wild camping options on the island. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
