Glen Rosa Horseshoe : Isle of Arran hill race

The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race held at Brodick Castle Country Park on the Isle of Arran. The route is about 20 km long with a total climb of 1670 m and runs largely over heather and granite. The course is mostly unmarked but includes checkpoints at various locations that all runners must visit; cut off times apply. Competitors will receive a grid of checkpoints and a route map before race day.

The event first ran in 1989, was discontinued in 2015, and was restarted in 2025. Entrants must be at least 18 years old, have completed a minimum of two similar races, and be able to navigate the route in poor weather. All competitors must carry appropriate kit, including map and compass, and follow Scottish Hill Racing rules. The event is insured and licensed through SHR.

Travel and logistics notes in the event information state a 35 minute walk along the fisherman’s walk from the ferry, with alternative travel by bike or bus. Parking is available at the Goatfell car park and the Rangers centre field is a short walk from there. There are no showers at the race field, but freshwater pools are nearby. Prizes include trophies for overall and local winners and medals for a range of age and team categories. The event is organised by Arran Runners and sponsored locally by Arran Active.
