Glen Rosa Horseshoe
The Glen Rosa Horseshoe is a Category AL Scottish hill race located on the Isle of Arran. The event follows a clockwise loop that traverses four summits of Glen Rosa, with a focus on minimizing tarmac. The course primarily consists of heather and granite terrain and is mostly unmarked, requiring participants to visit several checkpoints.
The event offers a single distance:
- 20 km distance with 1670 m of total ascent.
Participation is open to runners aged 18 or older who have completed at least two similar races. Competitors are required to possess navigation skills sufficient for bad weather conditions and must carry the appropriate kit, including a map and compass, as per Scottish Hill Runners (SHR) rules. Specific cut-off times are in place for the course.
The race begins at the Rangers Centre field within Brodick Castle Country Park. Registration takes place on the morning of the event at the same location. Local transport options include a 35-minute walk from the ferry via Fisherman’s Walk, or access by bike or bus. Parking is available at the Goatfell car park with a 10-minute walk to the start area.
