Glen Lyon Trail Race
Glen Lyon Trail Race is held in the remote Glen Lyon in the Perthshire hills on 7 June 2026. The event is a 100% off road loop of Loch Lyon covering 15.5 miles with roughly 1,500 ft of ascent. The route includes around six river crossings that will wet participants' feet, a steep climb shortly after the start, then an undulating course for most of the distance, finishing at Glen Lyon Dam.
There is a water station at about 8 miles. Camping is available at Glen Lyon Dam on the Saturday night before the race where runners' toilets are provided. Access to the start uses single-track roads and drivers may encounter new-born lambs; arrival is managed by marshals and parking is on a working estate where estate staff and Scottish Hydro require access at all times. Open fires are not allowed when camping.
Entry has no specific qualification requirements; entrants should be confident of running over 15 miles with some elevation. The entry fee includes a race memento and a goody bag; a technical race t-shirt is offered as an optional extra.
Runners must carry mandatory kit during the event. Typical mandatory items listed are a foil blanket, water container, food, a working mobile phone with race control number entered, a small first aid kit and a race vest to hold equipment. Recommended items include waterproofs, warm layers, hat, gloves and a folding cup. Race rules require compliance with marshals, medical teams and the Race Director, and prohibit place transfers, muling, walking poles, dogs and littering.
