Event Overview

The Gleaners Hunger Free Summer Race is an event organized by Gleaners Community Food Bank. The 2026 edition is the second annual event. It takes place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Freedom River in Brighton, Michigan. The event supports the organization's mission to create a food-secure Southeast Michigan, with a focus on providing meals to children during the summer.

  • 5K Run/Walk
  • 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk

Event Details

Proceeds from registrations and donations support Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Thanks to a matching donation, every dollar raised provides six meals to families. The 5K is a chip-timed event on a cross-country course that includes trails, fields, pavement, and slight hills. The 1 Mile event is untimed.

Registration and Pricing

Early registration includes a t-shirt, guaranteed for entries by June 7. Shirt sizes and availability are limited after that date. Prices increase after June 7.

  • 5K Run/Walk: $30 early registration, $35 after June 7, $40 on race day (no shirt).
  • 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk: $25 early registration, $30 after June 7, $35 on race day (no shirt).

Schedule and Logistics

On race day, check-in and on-site registration open at 7:00 AM. The 5K starts at 8:30 AM, followed by the 1 Mile event at 8:35 AM. Awards and refreshments are available immediately after the events. There is plenty of onsite parking.

Packet pickup is available on June 18 from 4:00-7:00 PM at The Running Lab in Brighton, or on race day at 7:00 AM at the venue.

Awards

Awards include Running Lab gift certificates for the overall male/female and overall master male/female winners. The top three in each standard age group (14 and under to 70+) also receive awards. Team awards are given for Largest Team, Most Spirited Team, and Largest Fundraising Team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
