Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Trail Race
The Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem event takes place at the Proud Lake State Recreation Area in Commerce Township, Michigan. This trail running event features a unique format where participants can run during the daylight, at night, or both. The courses consist of wide, runnable trails with some sections containing roots. Depending on weather conditions, the terrain may include spring mud.
Participants can choose from several distances and formats:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 10K
- 26.2 Miles (Double Half Marathon)
- 20K (Double 10K)
- 19.3 Miles (Combination of Half Marathon and 10K)
Courses are marked with turn signs at intersections and confidence markers positioned every tenth of a mile. Daytime races occur in full light, while evening races require the use of a headlamp or flashlight as they continue after sunset. Individuals who participate in "Double" events receive two magnetic medals that connect. Regular registration includes a spring race hoodie, while economy registration options are available for those who prefer to skip the shirt and medal.
The event includes a community hangout between the morning and evening sessions. This gathering features hot food, a community potluck, and lawn games held at the Proud Lake Rec Area Modern Campground. Virtual race options are also provided for those who wish to complete the distances independently. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
