About the race
Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska holds a season closing celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event on May 15, 2027 takes place at Westchester Lagoon in Anchorage and features a noncompetitive 3.1 mile course designed for participants to walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace.
Every GOTR participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal. Coaches and program participants are already registered through the council and do not need to register again. Community registration categories and fees listed by the council include alumnae or child ($10), community runner (early bird $25 through March 31, regular $30, day of $35), community donor ($50), and running buddy ($10). All registrations include a liability waiver.
Safety procedures include mandatory race bibs, assignment of a running buddy for each participant, course monitoring and head counts, and a council safety plan with trained staff and volunteers. The course is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking is available. Volunteers support set up and tear down, registration, course marshals, running buddies, water stations, cheer stations and activity stations; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
