5K Celebration
Girls on the Run Shenandoah Valley closes each season with a celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event for the Fall season is scheduled for Sunday, November 15, 2026, at Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School in Winchester, VA. The course uses a combination of roads around Evandale Elementary and Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School and is 3.1 miles long. Race marshals will help direct traffic and the council monitors the course to support participant safety.
Program participants receive a commemorative medal. The council provides race bibs for all participants and assigns a running buddy to each program participant for the full course; parents or guardians may serve as a running buddy. The event is accessible for people with disabilities; designated parking spots are available. Cars will not be able to leave until the race has completed for safety reasons.
Registration opens in February with online pricing that increases four weeks prior to the event. Register by October 17 to guarantee a race-day shirt. Community and youth registration fees vary by date range; on-site registration on event day is available with varying prices. All registrations include a liability waiver.
Additional on-site elements include water stations, cheer and volunteer stations, face painting, happy hair stations, merchandise for sale, and a published 5K training guide. Volunteers are needed for setup, course marshals, running buddies and other roles; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
