Girls on the Run Shenandoah Valley 5K : Celebratory End-of-Season Event
The Girls on the Run Shenandoah Valley 5K is a season-closing, celebratory event that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event distance is a 5K, which equals 3.1 miles, and every participant in the program receives a commemorative medal.
The listed event date is Sunday, November 15, 2026, at Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School, 134 Rosa Lane, Winchester, VA 22602. The course uses a combination of roads around Evandale Elementary and Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School and will be supported by race marshals to help direct traffic. For safety, cars will not be able to leave until the race has completed and designated accessible parking spots are available.
Nonprogram participants such as family, friends and community members can join but must register. Program participants and coaches are already registered and do not need to register. All registrants must sign a liability waiver and wear a provided race bib. The council assigns running buddies to support participants during the 5K; family members may serve as running buddies.
The event includes volunteer-run stations and activities such as water stations, cheer stations, face painting and a happy hair station. Volunteers appointed through the council will undergo a background check, and staff and volunteers receive safety training and an established safety plan.
