Girls on the Run Montgomery County 5K Celebration
This event is the end-of-season 5K celebration for Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole program participants. The 5K is a non-competitive, untimed course of 5K (3.1 miles) that starts and finishes in Celebration Village in the northwest parking lot of Westfield Montgomery Mall, at the corner of Westlake Drive and Westlake Terrace adjacent to Macy's Home and The Cheesecake Factory.
The closing event gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal. All runners must wear a bib to participate; program participants and coaches are registered by the council and receive bibs through their teams. Buddy runners must be at least 16 years old and must register by the published deadline; buddy runner bib distribution follows the council’s registration deadlines.
The course is accessible for people with disabilities and welcomes walking, running, rolling or pushing at each participant’s own pace. There are no first aid stations on course; course marshals in council vests and safety runners are available to assist if medical attention is needed. A single water station is noted on the course. Post-5K refreshments for finishers include bananas, bars and water in cups, and compost and recycling stations are provided.
Morning parking and traffic are affected by rolling road closures and parking restrictions. Celebration Village serves as the team meeting area and start/finish location; there is no participant drop off and attendees should access the village from mall parking areas.
