Girls on the Run Montgomery County 5K Celebration
The event is an end-of-season, untimed and non-competitive 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal to recognize completion.
The 5K course covers 3.1 miles and starts and finishes in Celebration Village in the northwest parking lot of Westfield Montgomery Mall, at the corner of Westlake Drive and Westlake Terrace. The course leaves the parking lot and follows a loop that uses Westlake Drive, Westlake Terrace, Motor City Drive, Rock Spring Drive, Rockledge Drive and Fernwood, with a single water station noted along the route. There are no first aid stations on the course; course marshals and safety runners are available to assist participants who need help.
All runners must wear a bib to participate. Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole participants receive bibs from their coaches; buddy runners who register by the stated deadline can receive a bib with their participant. Buddy runners must be at least 16 years old. There is no day-of registration for buddy runners.
Road closures and parking restrictions will affect Westlake Drive, Westlake Terrace, Rock Spring Drive and Rockledge Drive during the event. Celebration Village includes the start and finish arch, packet pickup, sponsor and volunteer tents, warmups, a large coloring mural and merchandise. Post 5K refreshments include bananas, bars and water, and recycling and compost stations are provided for waste management. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
