About the race
The Girls on the Run Montgomery County 5K is an end-of-season, celebratory, untimed and non-competitive event for program participants and community members. The course is 5K (3.1 miles) and starts and finishes in Celebration Village in the northwest parking lot of Westfield Montgomery Mall, at the corner of Westlake Drive and Westlake Terrace.
All Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole program participants receive a commemorative medal. The event encourages participants to walk, run, roll, push, or skip at their own pace. Buddy runners must be at least 16 years old and may be a parent, guardian, coach, teacher, relative, or family friend; every runner must wear a bib to participate.
Registration opens on October 5 and closes on November 19 at noon. Pricing tiers are listed for early, standard, and late registration, and in-person registration is not available. Buddy runners who register by the stated deadline may receive their bibs with the participant; later-registered buddy runners must collect bibs at packet pickup on the morning of the event.
The council notes that road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect during the event and may cause substantial traffic congestion. Post-5K refreshments include bananas, bars, and water, and recycling and compost stations will be provided. The course is accessible; arrangements for accessibility can be made through the council.
