5K Celebration
The Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas 5K Celebration is a season-closing event that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event listed for Sunday, November 22, 2026 has its location to be determined.
The course distance is 5K (3.1 miles) and is run or walked on roads that will be closed to traffic. There will be one aid station on course and additional water available at the finish for runners; participants and spectators are encouraged to bring their own water. Pets are not allowed on the course or at the event.
Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal, a t-shirt, a swag bag, and snacks at the finish line. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council and do not need separate registration.
Registration fees vary by registration period and participant type. Early registration fees list adults at $25 and youth at $15. General, late, and race day fees increase incrementally up to $40 for adults and $40 for youth on race day.
A Running Buddy is an adult who completes the 5K alongside a participant for the entire course; adults must register as Running Buddies. Family members and community runners may participate if registered.
Safety measures include race bibs for runners, a running buddy system, course monitoring, and a council safety plan that trains staff and volunteers. Liability waivers are required. Local and national sponsors support the event. Volunteers are recruited for set up and tear down, packet pickup, course monitoring, water stations, cheer stations, and activity stations; volunteers appointed by the council undergo a background check.
