5K Celebration
Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas holds an end of season 5K closing event on Sunday, November 22, 2026. The course is a standard 5K distance (3.1 miles) run or walk on roads; the course will be closed to traffic and not run on sidewalks. The exact location is listed as TBD.
The event aims to give program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every registered participant who completes the 5K will receive a medal, t shirt, swag bag, and snacks at the finish line. The council provides race bibs and assigns a Running Buddy to GOTR participants; a Running Buddy completes the entire course alongside a participant.
Registration is divided into three categories: Running Buddy (ages 16 and older), Community Runner (ages 16 and older), and Youth Community Runner (ages 5 to 15). Fees vary by registration period (early, general, late, and race day); for example, early Running Buddy registration is $25, general is $30, and race day is $40. Program participants and coaches are registered through the program and do not need separate registration.
Event safety measures include a monitored course, a council safety plan, trained staff and volunteers, and one aid station on course with additional water at the finish for runners. Pets are not allowed on the course. Volunteer roles include set up and tear down, packet pickup, course monitoring, water stations, cheer stations, and face painting; volunteers appointed by the council undergo a background check.
