Event Overview
The Summer Sizzler is an annual running event held at Lake Afton in Goddard, Kansas. This multi-distance gathering takes place in late August and features various road races to accommodate different interests. Participants can choose between competitive timed events and non-competitive options.
Race Categories
The event schedule includes several distances:
- Kids Dash (50m)
- 1 Mile
- 5k (3.1 miles)
- 10k (6.2 miles)
- 15k (9.32 miles)
The 5k, 10k, and 15k distances are chip-timed and include live results and awards for participants. The 1 Mile race and the Kids Dash (for children aged 10 and under) are untimed. A virtual race option is also available for those unable to attend the physical location.
Participant Amenities
Registered runners receive a designer shirt, a custom bib, and a finisher medal. To ensure shirt availability, registration must be completed at least ten days prior to the event. The finish line area features various refreshments, including Kona Ice and other treats. Event photographers provide free photos for participants.
Team Participation
The event features a team registration system. If a group forms a team of four, each member receives a partial refund. This refund amount increases if the team reaches ten or more registered members. Additionally, a volunteer and run program allows individuals to assist with event logistics before participating in their chosen distance.
