The Laps For Love Backyard Ultra is a community-focused endurance event held at Sedgwick County Park with the start and finish located near the Plum Shelter area. The course is a paved loop of 4.167 miles with minimal elevation change, described as runnable while fatigue accumulates over repeated laps. Registered runners may have the opportunity to preview course options before race day.
The event follows the traditional Backyard Ultra format: a loop is repeated on an hourly schedule and runners must complete each loop within the allotted hour to remain in the event. There is no preset distance or time limit; the race continues until only one runner completes a full loop alone and is declared the winner.
Aid and crew arrangements emphasize self-sufficiency and community support. Runners are expected to bring their own nutrition and supplies; crews are welcome at the start and finish area and may set up tents or gear. A stocked main aid station will provide water, electrolytes, Ultraverse Supplements Proxima C, and simple hot food options as the race progresses while supplies last. Pacers are not allowed.
All participants who complete at least one loop receive a finisher item, and registrants who meet the t-shirt deadline receive a race shirt. The event donates $100 from every registration to Family Promise of Greater Wichita to support emergency shelter, case management, rental assistance, and housing stability programs.
