Laps For Love Backyard Ultra : Wichita, KS
The Laps For Love Backyard Ultra is a community-focused endurance event held at Sedgwick County Park near the Plum Shelter area. The race follows the Backyard Ultra format: runners repeatedly complete a fixed loop and a new loop begins each hour. Each loop is 4.167 miles. Participants must complete each loop within the hour to continue; any remaining time between loops may be used to rest, refuel, use facilities, and reset. Failure to start the next loop on time results in elimination. The event has no preset distance or time limit and continues until only one runner completes a full loop alone.
The course uses paved paths with minimal elevation change. Organizers describe it as runnable while becoming more demanding as fatigue accumulates. Final course maps and details are shared closer to race weekend, and registered entrants may have opportunities to preview course options.
Runners are expected to bring their own nutrition and supplies. Crews are allowed at the start and finish area and are encouraged to bring personal gear. Pacers are not permitted. A main aid station at the start and finish will offer water, electrolytes, Ultraverse Supplements Proxima C, simple hot food as the event progresses, and other items while supplies last.
The event donates $100 from each registration to Family Promise of Greater Wichita to support emergency shelter, case management, rental assistance, and related programs. Weather in Kansas can be variable; there are no refunds or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
