5K Celebration - Confidence through Accomplishment
This event is a season closing 5K celebration hosted by Girls on the Run Greater Tampa Bay at Al Lopez Park in Tampa, Florida. The 5K serves as the culminating event for girls who completed the eight week Girls on the Run or Heart and Sole programs. The course length for the main event is 5K which equals 3.1 miles; there is also a 1 mile option for participants.
The event is open to the public. Registered participants who complete the 5K receive a commemorative medal and an event t shirt. Program participants and coaches are typically pre registered and do not need to complete additional registration. General participant registration includes a fee for the 5K.
Safety and accessibility measures are in place: every participant must wear a run bib, the council assigns a running buddy system, and there is a council safety plan for staff and volunteers. The course is accessible so participants can walk, run, push or roll, and designated parking is available. Strollers are permitted on the course and children age four and younger are not required to register. Pets are not allowed in Celebration Village or on the 5K course.
Volunteer roles include set up and break down, water stations, cheer stations, course lookouts and Running Buddies called Sparklers. Sparklers must be at least 18 years old and have a cleared background check on file.
