Girls on the Run Greater Rochester 5K Celebration
The event is an end-of-season celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The course length is 3.1 miles and the event is presented as a noncompetitive, celebratory occasion where participants may walk, run, roll or push at their own pace. The council provides race bibs and a safety plan; course marshalls monitor the route and volunteers receive training for emergency response.
Every program participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal. Program participants and coaches do not need separate registration because their program registration includes 5K participation. Family members, friends and community members may register to take part; registration categories include Running Buddy (adult), Youth Running Buddy (15 and younger), and Virtual Community Runner, with listed fees that increase after 10/19.
The council recommends using a Running Buddy for the full duration of the course; a Running Buddy is a person designated to accompany a participant throughout the 5K. Parents and guardians are able and encouraged to serve as Running Buddies. Designated accessible parking is available and the course is intended to be accessible for people with disabilities.
Additional event elements include on-site merchandise, activity stations such as shirt signing and face painting, water stations, and volunteer roles like course marshalls, photographers and finish line attendants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
